Letter from the President

Dear Members,

2010 is the first year of the new SIDO [Italian Society of Orthodontics]: with all of you and with the Directive Council, I would like to “recognise the past, live the present and think about the future.” Thanks to your support and to the work of all the preceding Directors, today SIDO is a society in step with international times. It has been renovated in substance, in form and in procedure. Some examples are: the creation of the category of Active Members, the only ones who can be elected; the collegial administration of the society; the possibility for expanded programming of the activities of successive years, etc.  
Given the strategic vision of major efficiency and verification of the satisfaction of our work, let’s not lose sight of SIDO’s most important mission, as it says in our statutes, “carrying out cultural and scientific activities [...] to promote, to promulgate, to develop Orthodontics just as for auxiliary disciplines.”  

Our updating programme has as its leading motive the “convergence of knowledge for the individual wellbeing of the orthodontic patient” through both the in-depth study of individual mechanisms at the base of the clinical point of view answer and the development of therapeutic methods which increasingly take the biological characteristics and individual needs of our patient into consideration.  This is the mega-trend of medicine today. The arguments will be treated during the Spring Meeting by the best Italian and foreign sponsors, in an ever more extended international context, with special consideration concerning the Mediterranean area. Let’s broaden the initiative for the young, the rapport with paediatricians and all those themes such as the managerial aspects of our profession, or initiatives which have proved to be important for SIDO’s image and for the life of its members. Let’s support the SIDO Solidarity project, involving ever more members.

Our mantra should be Enthusiasm, Momentum, Openness for your creativity. Let’s transform your ideas into real growth opportunities. In this growth each of us can and must participate, giving the best of ourselves and our experience.
