Dear Colleagues,

It is a great honor and privilege to begin my term as President of SIDO for 2026. I look forward to sharing this year with all of you in a spirit of collaboration, open dialogue, and collective growth.

I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to Professor Lorenzo Franchi for his outstanding leadership during 2025. Working together with the Board of Directors, his Presidency was marked by highly successful scientific events and a clear strategic vision: to further strengthen SIDO as a well-structured, solid, and internationally recognized Society, serving as a reference point for clinical excellence, education, and professional development.
This vision is achievable only through continuity in planning and the sharing of long-term strategies across successive Presidencies. In 2025, an important organizational process was undertaken, thanks to the joint efforts of all SIDO governing bodies, restoring balance and transparency within the Society and reinforcing the credibility and standing of our scientific community.
I am especially pleased that SIDO is now well positioned to further enhance its international profile, bringing Members together around the shared values of our Association.

The 2026 scientific program represents the natural continuation of the pathway initiated last year. Its core themes—innovation, diagnosis, and interdisciplinarity—reflect our belief that progress in orthodontics arises from the integration of scientific evidence, clinical expertise, and open professional exchange.

Two major congress events will represent key milestones in the Society’s activities:

  • The SIDO International Spring Meeting, to be held in Riccione on March 13–14, 2026, entitled
    “Update on Class II Malocclusions: Scientific Evidence, Clinical Decision-Making, and Controversies.”
    This meeting is designed to foster critical and constructive discussion through interactive sessions and round-table debates focused on one of the most clinically relevant topics in contemporary orthodontics.
  • The SIDO International Congress, scheduled to take place in Turin from October 8–10, 2026, under the theme
    “Innovation, Interdisciplinarity, and the Future: Orthodontics in Dialogue with Modern Medicine.”
    This three-day event will feature a high-level scientific program including pre-congress thematic courses, workshops, a joint SIDO–SIDP session, and interdisciplinary discussions involving orthodontics, surgery, restorative dentistry, and emerging technologies, reflecting a modern and integrated vision of patient care.

While distinct in format, these two events are complementary and will place particular emphasis on the active involvement of younger colleagues, encouraging broad participation and professional development.

In addition to the major congresses, 2026 will offer a wide range of educational, scientific, and professional initiatives designed to support all segments of our international community, including:

  • SIDO Study Clubs, online forums for in-depth learning and professional exchange;
  • SIDO Next Gen, dedicated programs for early-career orthodontists, including mentoring and interaction with senior colleagues;
  • Free online continuing education (FAD), enabling Members to maintain professional competencies and meet continuing education requirements, including training in radiation protection;
  • The SIDO–MARSH insurance program, an exclusive service providing tailored professional coverage;
  • A strategic communication program, developed in collaboration with Dottcom, aimed at enhancing the visibility of both the Society and the orthodontic profession through integrated digital and media channels.

My hope is that 2026 will be an inclusive, dynamic, and inspiring year, in which every Member feels part of a shared international project: a SIDO that grows together, fosters education and innovation, and looks confidently toward the future.

Our common goal is to strengthen SIDO as an open, cohesive, and forward-looking scientific community, where excellence in research and clinical practice is accompanied by strong professional and human values.

I am confident that, with the contribution of each of you, 2026 will be a year of renewed energy, engagement, and identity for SIDO.

With my warmest regards and sincere appreciation,

Daniela Garbo
